I normally do not get into the Olympics, other than
my love of figure skating, so this week's
Weekend Crush is a little different for me. What's so special about Missy Franklin? For one her awesome performance in the 100 m dash even though she started out behind. Also, how cute is she in the US Olympic swimming team's Call Me Maybe parody? (below)
For those of us that
suffer from perfectionism, starting out behind is way past maddening and into giving-up-now territory. Sure, she trained like crazy for her 100 m dash but I imagine that in that moment when she could hear her competitors jetting by there must have been doubts. She reached the wall, did one of those flippy turns, and sped forward for the gold. It's nice to see such a nice comeback and it makes a lovely metaphor.
It doesn't matter if you fall behind in the beginning, keep going and you may just pass everyone. (View it
here, crazy old YouTube will not allow this to be embedded.)
Then there's the Call Me Maybe parody. This is our favorite parody at home, especially Missy. That's her at 0:25, 1:05 (note the hair flip), 1:39, and 2:06 (more cute hair flips). I'm thinking she should do some
pole, right? I could definitely see her doing some awesome sporty pole and I bet shoulder mounts would be a breeze for her, even iron X. Maybe in the style of
Oona Kivela. Then again she already rocks the hair flips so maybe
Jenyne Butterfly or
Anastasia Skukhtorova would be more her cup of tea.
Here it is, enjoy:
