Weekend Crush: These Pole Kisses

For the first time in over 3 months I finally have some pole kisses. For a pole dancer these are pretty much always a big deal and a lot of fun to show off. Is that we're masochists? What's our deal? There is certainly something about them for us to be going on about some glorified bruises. Even in my pole forum lurking days I couldn't wait to start pole and chime in on the pole chatter, including all the fun pole specific words and pole kisses.

I am convinced we're not weird. Okay, so I'm a little biased. Still, I think our love for pole bruises and the
cutesy names that come with it--pole kiss, pole bite, even pole burn--come from motivation. Pole is somehow a very beginner-friendly sport, there are a lot of reasons for this including community but that's a whole other discussion, and pole kisses are part of that package. Seriously, what other activity can you think of where you get quick if not instant proof of your progress?

My pretty side climb pole kisses
Strength builds slowly over time, one of the big reasons athletes and fitness enthusiasts experience burn out. So does flexibility for that matter. Even though pole bruises tend to occur less as we build up that strength and master the moves that used to cause them they ares still great markers of how much we worked during the last practice session. Looking at my own pole bruises you can tell from where they are that I sucked it up and worked on knee pit grips. Ugh. Why do those have to hurt so much? As much as I love side climb and have practically lusted over KiKi's side spin they plain old hurt too much for me to try them if not for the motivation I got from KiKi herself and calipolepixie.

It's like the pleasure of having sore muscles after a workout. People even over train sometimes because they feel they need to be sore to have gotten a good session in (false). The advantage of ours is you can't take photos and video of good ol' muscle soreness but we get to share ours with our pole peeps. Thank goodness too because all my pole friends are online! It even gives us something to talk about, like having to dispel the battered spouse/partner rumors, discussing pet bruise remedies, and wondering if the person next to you in line got that bruise from a pole climb. Funny, pole kisses actually help within the pole community that way. It gives us something to think about next time we leave some skin on the pole or get a nice dark bruise.
